Sajan is not your typical holiday destination. There is just one place to stay and Sajan Nature Club is comfortable rather than luxurious. There are no restaurants and no tourist spots. Famous only for kayaking, rafting, river-crossing or rappelling – this place is ideal for an off-beat getaway – AutoCar (Aug. ’09) takes a trip...
Sajan is just a short drive from Mumbai & Nashik. Basically one just sticks to the NH8 while driving out of Mumbai till one reaches Manor. From there, there’s a right turn at Vegas Hotel towards Wada. Around 16.5km from there, one takes the left that goes towards Vikramgarh and Jawahar. The road is good and it takes 10km to reach Sajan.
The Nature Club is the only place to stay there and it houses 11 thatched huts, five tiled huts and four dorms. While they are not air-conditioned, they are nice and clean. Costs start from about Rs. 1,500 per person per night which includes all meals. The food is simple and good.
If you like adventure sports –Sajan has a lot of options. One can try out mountain biking or kayaking, rafting, river-crossing and rappelling. Most of these activities take place at the Moho-Khurd Dam which is about two kilometres from the resort. One can also visit the Tiger Caves which is quite an awesome geographical formation ideal for rock-climbing and rappelling. For trekkers, there is the Kohoj Fort which can be seen from NH8 just short of Manor. The trek starts at Waghote village at the foothill of the mountain. A path from the village leads to a small lake from where one can make the two-hour climb to Kohoj Fort.
This place is also supposed to be a delight for birdwatchers and home to many migratory birds like the kingfisher and crow pheasant. If you feel like visiting a waterfall the Palusa waterfall is located away from prying eyes and is set with jungles on both sides. It falls from a height of about 50 feet and is about 12km from the resort. One has to trek the final one kilometre stretch to the river Dehraja, cross the river and reach the waterfall.
Other than that, there’s Rohan Water Park with the usual water slides and pool, perfect for kids to enjoy themselves. If you’re the off-beat kind of person, you can take a botanical excursion, try your hand at planting veggies or go paddy planting if you visit during monsoons. There’s also a well-known Warli painter, Sunil Kharpare, around 3.7km away from the Club – so if you are interested in Indian arts and crafts, you know where to browse.
So Sajan is that perfect quick getaway for the weekend away from the maddening crowds. Do make a trip suggests Autocar (Aug. ’09).
