What
would you get if you combined great fuel efficiency with an unbeatable
price? A Tata
Indica Xeta of course, says Autocar India, March 2006. There is nothing
radical or new in the design part of the car, but let’s face it.
You can’t get everything when you’re paying just as much as
you do for the Xeta. However, there are a lots of improvements in this
car, and definitely stands several degrees higher than the old Indica
models. Does that explain Autocar India’s extravagant 8 / 10 rating?
Find out below.
PROS:
1. The first
noticeable feature on the new Indica Xeta is the better drivability and
impressive increase in torque. These in turn transform the Xeta into a
pleasingly responsive car. And more so, in heavy traffic.
2. The Xeta is decently fuel efficient, producing 10.9 kpl in the city
and 15.9 kpl on the highway. Not bad at all.
3. The spacious interiors are a soothing beige, with the seats being large
and comfortable. The insides of the Xeta render the ambience of a larger
car. Use of plastic on the dashboard is very tasteful, and is ergonomically
sound as well.
4. The engine is very refined, and if you leave it to its own devices
long enough, you might even forget it exists. It’s that smooth and
quiet.
5. Unquestionably, the USP of the car is its price. Where else would you
get such a car for 3.75 lakh? Worth ignoring the other slightly not-so-nice
features, isn’t it?
CONS:
1.
Like nothing is, this car too, isn’t perfect. For starters, the
car tends to get jerky and jumpy at low speeds. This can get very irritating
at times.
2. The gearbox hasn’t changed from the previous Indica models, and
feels awfully rubbery and horrible.
3. There is slight decrease in performance as you’re just closing
in on that car next to you, but this isn’t a matter of great concern.
4. The McPherson strut suspension isn’t too crude, but can definitely
be spiced up further.
5. The steering is nothing to write home about, more so when you accelerate
higher.
6. The Xeta still isn’t as good as its same-segment rivals, but
is very impressive at the price it sports.
