AIR CONDITIONER GLOSSARY
The air-conditioning cycle
Compressor Refrigeration pump that circulates refrigerant and increases the pressure of refrigerant vapour.

Condenser Component that removes heat from the refrigerant, changing it from a hot vapour to a warm liquid. It is usually located in front of the vehicle’s radiator.

Discharge line Connects the compressor outlet to the condenser inlet.

Receiver-drier A canister that contains a desiccant to remove moisture and is used to store and filter liquid refrigerant. The receiver-drier is located in the liquid line between the condenser outlet and expansion valve inlet.

Evaporator Expansion valve This is where the high-pressure liquid suddenly expands into gas, thus losing its heat.Cooling coils Component that removes heat from the air entering the passenger compartment.

Liquid line Refrigerant line connecting the condenser outlet to the evaporator inlet.

Blower fan (not seen) A motor-driven fan used to force air through the evaporator core or heater core and circulates air through the passenger compartment.

Suction line The line connecting evaporator outlet to compressor inlet.

Radiator Line The line carrying hot coolant from the radiator for heating purposes.
