Simplicity In Car Maintenance

Avoid overheating
When cars are driven through potholes, water is splashed on the suspension as well as on other parts like the radiator and A/C condenser. Both the radiator and the condenser have very minute slats which allow the passage of air for cooling. Mud clogging the slats hampers air flow. As a result cooling is affected which could cause overheating and the air-conditioner could fail to cool the passenger cabin adequately. The radiator and condenser slats are ignored during servicing as it is time consuming to detach both components from the engine bay. This could lead to severe problems with overheating and the engine components could fail to withstand the heat which could give way to its seizure. Scaling within the radiator could also lead to problems of water circulation within the engine. When boiling water is circulated within the engine, the water content reacts chemically to produce scales on the inner walls of the radiator which peel of in matter of time and circulate along with the water inside the channels. Scaling is a form of corrosion within the radiator which damages the inner walls. It is essential to flush the radiator regularly to avoid circumstances of engine overheating.

Suspension bushes of a car which are worn out due to rough roads and improper wheel alignment and balancing. Brake oil affects the strength of rubber or poor quality parts.
• Suspension components should be greased after monsoons to avoid corrosion.
• Replace rubber components such as bellows and hoses if torn or distorted.
• Lubricate metal parts and not bushes to ensure that dust is not attracted.
• Check out for cracks in heavy duty wire set to avoid wastage of electrical energy.
• The wastage could also result in improper ignition and hence rough engine behaviour.
• Fan and air conditioner belts have to be checked for slippage since that could lead to engine overheating and inefficient cooling in passenger cabin.
• Check brake pads for wear and tear or softening and replace if necessary.
• Radiator and condenser slats have to be free of dust or mud to ensure proper cooling of engine and the passenger cabin.
• Slats could be cleaned by using air or water under high pressure depending on the rigidity of the precipitate.

Monitor flow of electricity
The heavy duty spark plug wire set that is in the area where the scorching heat of the engine can rip off the rubber mask. The water and the heat could distort the rubber only to let in more water. When the enclosed spark plug connectivity is exposed, electrical energy is wasted and the car suffers unbalanced ignition which means problems galore!

An electrical malfunction could also take place especially in situation when the wires are exposed to bare metal. In cases where water enters components like relays, alternators etc corrosion takes place on the base plates that are located inside the unit. The oxidation of the base plate could spread towards the circuit board and affect the elctronic circuitry.

A short circuit in the board could affect the functioning of the complete system. These systems are usually replaced with new ones. This problem occurs due to the spurious nature of components which are poorly finished and one could find a number of clearances in the sealed unit as well.
