Tips
while filling Air in your Tyre.
Always make sure your tyres are inflated to the correct
pressure.
When inflating your tyres, always make sure that the gauge
is accurate.
Never bleed air from tyres/ tubes which are hot after continuous
running. Always make sure that the your tyres are the correct
pressure at regular intervals (optimally, every fortnight).
Make sure that your tyres have valve caps, which are screwed
on securely to prevent air leakage and prevent dirt and
other particles from entering the valve pin area.
In vehicles fitted with radials as original equipment tyres,
make sure that the tyres are inflated to the specified minimum
on the vehicle manufacturers recommendations. You will find
this on the tyre pressure placard, which is usually placed
near the driver's door).
It is advisable to occasionally check your car's suspension,
especially if you are driving on bad roads.
If tyre bursts in traffic
The Indication:
The steering tends to pull to the side
The explanation:
The tyre or tube is worn out
The air pressure is either too high or too low
Driving over sharp stones or objects on the road has caused
your tyre tube to tear.
Steering to safety:
The most important factor governing your safety when your
tyre bursts is the speed at which you're driving. The slower
you are, the easier it is to steer your way to safety.
If a rear tyre bursts, you can gradually bring the car under
control by gently stepping on the brake. However, since
most Indian cars are front wheel drives, when a front tyre
bursts, steering becomes nearly impossible, and you must
be prepared to take the following steps:
Grip the steering
wheel firmly to keep the car on course.
Release both the accelerator and brake pedals.
Use the emergency brake to control the speed of
your car. (since the emergency brake only operates
on the back wheels of your car, it is safe to
use it).
Move into a lower gear to further reduce your
speed.
Apply your foot brake gently once the speed drops
to below 25 kmph. |
If there is
dense traffic on the road, you will be required to come
to a stop much faster than these steps allow for. In this
case, hold the steering wheel firmly, step on the foot
brake gently and release it once or twice.
